Schoenefeld is a small airport terminal located on the outer fringes of the city of Berlin. Numerous economy airlines such as Ryanair, Easyjet and GermanWings fly to and from here. Although small, the Schonefeld area is becoming more and more industrialised and it’s going to be bigger in years to come. This twenty km journey into the city costs around €35 by taxi – so not that expensive. The station is really very easy to find too – just head out the primary door from the terminal A, take a left at the door you will see a roofed walkway heading off into the distance. Follow this walkway and you will reach the station.
A single ticket will cost around €2 – truly low-priced considering the price of a taxi. Please don’t forget to get your ticket validated prior to boarding the train although. This could be done at one of the machines located along the platforms. The U-Bahn is pretty faultless and is always on time.
This train will bring you right to the city centre so you’ll just be a few minutes stroll from your accommodation if you get off at the correct stop. If you ring your hotel beforehand they’ll have no problem giving you this info. If you’re staying further afield although, you will most likely be able to get a connecting S-Bahn to bring you to your desired location.
Upon returning – At the airport rail station get off the train and stroll although a series of well-signposted tunnels to reach the airport terminal. You will arrive at a roof-covered walkway.This walkway will bring you into the terminal A building.It is about half a kilometre which you may feel when lugging baggage with you but you are sheltered from the weather.
Among the most essential things to know here is from what terminal you departing from. If you’re flying out with Condor, GermanWings or SunExpress you’ll most likely be departing from Terminal D which will require you to take a right and exit the walkway early.
Those heading east to Israel etc (with Arkia Israel Airlines, El Al, Israir or Sun D’Or) generally depart from Terminal C. This is located between Terminals A and D; you will be turning right once you leave the walkway. Don’t worry these are all really well signposted in German and English. Both of these terminals could be reached from Terminal A, but if you’re stuck for time, it can make all the difference to head to them directly. Terminal B can only be reached via Terminal A.
Before you head straight for your departure gate you can find several amenities you may like to take advantage of for example cafes in the airport terminal, at least one in every terminal except for Terminal C. There is also an info desk on the ground floor of Terminal A.
